Hitchhiker's What?

A little while ago, I bought a copy of the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (which contains all five books of the series) by Douglas Adams. I don't know who else has read the whole thing, so I'll try not to spoil anything, but I have to get this off my chest...

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?!?!?!

A really stupid one. I was really annoyed, actually.

LOL!! I actually loved the ending. I thought it was perfect. I don't know if it was a philosophical statement or what, but it worked. I never developed an emotional attatchment to any of the characters, so I didn't care so much what happened.

I suppose from that angle, I agree. However, I really liked the characters. I would've been pretty much happy if he'd stopped after "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish". "Mostly Harmless" just pissed me off, especially because of what he did to Fenchurch right at the beginning. I liked her...

I don't remember the book that well, so I don't remember what happened to Fenchurch. Every once in a while though, I like an ending that makes the entire book/movie pointless. But only if it makes sense within the context of the story.

It's been a while since I read the books. I read the first 3, and the 4th. I started on the 5th, but just didn't have time, and never picked it up again.
