La Peña (Version 2.0)...

Well, last night, my brother, Fernando, and this guy named Beto had their version of La Peña. It was interesting to say the least. I was having a lot of "flashbacks" to the old Peña and it was kinda funny. Miguel, Fernando's son, was the doorman and the only thing I could think of was, "hehe, he's doing my job..."

Anyway, the night was pretty good, but it had a slightly different feel from the old Peña. Beto doesn't have the same kind of charisma and warmth that Connie and Mariano had. He's got a really cool style, but he's not as open to the crowd. Troy was freaking out because Beto made him play a chirango (small guitar-like instrument from the Incas) for one of the songs. He did pretty good (as is expected of him).

Later on that night, Beto says, "I hear there's a great guitarist in the room" and he stares at me. I'm looking around the room because... I'm not a guitarist... Then he says, "Troy's brother" and I'm like, "Um... I'm not a guitarist..." He chuckles and then asks, "You are a musician, though, right?" So, I ended up getting up (as I expected would happen the moment I stepped into the place) and singing "Blackbird" by Paul McCartney. I don't know how I did it, but I sang that sucker high! It was a lot higher than I would ever sing on purpose and yet I managed to pull it off. I suppose being a little nervous helped me hit those notes.

Anyway, that was my night...
