A Job? Really?

This week has been one whirlwind experience. Sunday night, my mom calls me telling me that there's a position open in the security company that her husband, Wes, works at. Wes tells me that I should call Brooks, the person in charge of hiring, at 9 AM the next morning about possibly getting that job.

Monday morning, I call in and ask about the job. In that phone call, Brooks asks me to come down to the office around noon for an interview. Still in shock, I scramble to get a ride downtown (for which I've made my roommate miserable asking for rides this week). I have my interview and she tells me that she'll let me know if I've been hired. That night, I get a call telling me I'm in. She asks me if I can come back the next day and fill out some paperwork and that I need to go through a certification for security officers class that Wednesday.

Tuesday, I go in to fill out paperwork. Wednesday, I go in for the class, which is legally supposed to last at least eight hours. The class dragged on for sixteen hours. It wouldn't have been so bad, but one of the other applicants kept getting us majorly sidetracked in conversation and debate. Anyway, during the class, I'm informed that I'll be going in for job site training the next day (aka today) and that I'll be starting work on Friday (aka tomorrow).

My shifts are from 6 AM to 2 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 PM to 10 PM on Sundays. I'll be working over at the security booth for the Avis car rental at PDX.
