Classes, Music, and the Weekend

The first week of classes has arrived for me. So far, I'm enjoying the semester. It's relatively quiet at night (thanks to living in the apartments), all of my classes are music classes (except Play Production), I just wrote a song that the choir might actually perform (It's a Kyrie), I have comfortable pants (they're the best pants I've ever owned... they're soooo comfortable), and I'm feeling fairly well about things. I'm still a little detached from social stuff, but I imagine that'll fade (I hope).

Anyway, this piece that I wrote for the choir is based off of the Kyrie from the Ordinary of the mass. It's in 6/2 (with brief lapses of 3/2), 33 measures long, and a whole lot of fun. I heard it for the first time (with actually voices) today and I was pretty excited about it. Those that sung it seemed to enjoy it as well (especially the altos), so I'm happy about that. Although, from what I heard, the sopranos are having a hard time with the vowels on higher notes. Since a Kyrie only has three different words, there's only a certain number of vowels (i - as in "ee"; e - as in "A"; and o - as in "oh") and on higher notes it's difficult to modify the vowel correctly. Either way, it still sounded good and the chorale gave me an applause after we finished rehearsing it (which I wasn't expecting, so that was nice).

This weekend, I'm going down to the OMEA conference at the University of Oregon. I'll be spending Friday and Saturday night in a hotel down there and attending seminars and various events Friday through Sunday. I'm definitely looking forward to that.

That's all for now... well, as much as can be typed in a short amount of time.
